It's been a while since I wrote a blog post! If I'm honest - it's been a very long time since I've been able to find the time to do so! However, it feels like a good time to give you all a little bit of an update on some changes that have been happening at Twisty Towers.
2024 and 2025 saw a fairly large increase in demand which has been utterly amazing. I am thrilled at how much people love their twisties and my gratitude to all of you is immense, whether you've bought just one, or have a collection of many many twisties.
The quandary I was then faced with was 'how on earth do I keep up with demand?'. I had worked with a couple of local sewists but if I'm honest, whilst they were immensely skilled, I really needed more help than they were able to give and I wasn't entirely sure how to move forward. With demand on the increase, my make-times have gradually crept up too and that was something I was keen to avoid!
A few things were very important to me:
- I wanted to maintain the high quality of my Twisties.
- I wanted them to be made in the UK
- I wanted to continue to source my fabrics myself and maintain full control over what was going out.
- I wanted to ensure that any manufacturer I worked with ran an ethical business that treated its employees fairly.
My husband Richard put me in touch with Kate Hills from Make it British who helps UK-based creative business founders with local supply chains, promoting UK handcrafting skills. She has a wealth of knowledge and with her, I've been able to source a UK manufacturer to start helping me with the manufacturing of my Twisties.
In April of this year, I received my first 100 Totally Twisted twisties made by my chosen manufacturer. They did an incredible job, and since then, a further 400 twisties have been made by them, and it has helped me keep up with demand... that being said, I'm still finding myself insanely busy as they're currently working on my biggest sellers and I'm still covering the rest which has meant that my turnover times have yet to improve but I'm hoping that will ease as I increase what I'm able to ask them to cover.
My hope is that I'm able to continue to supply you with a beautiful British-made product, made from quality materials - to keep your heads looking wonderfully adorned! That I'm in a place where I'm not doing it all myself is a bit of a pinch-me moment, and I absolutely could not have done it without you all so from me...
