What is a Twisty?

Twisties are wired headscarves and turbans from Do the Twist ltd. They come in three different styles and offer a variety of coverage:

Totally Twisted - our full head-coverage wired turban. This is the only Twisty that offers full coverage.

Original - our broad wired headscarf. Great for keeping up longer hair and offering the option for flamboyant finishes!

Slimline - our narrower headscarf. Perfect if you want a more understated look.

What fabric are Twisties made from?

All the Twisties are made from 100% cotton. The type of cotton might vary - some are craft cottons, others are chambray and then there are some that are poplin, and I also do Velvet. It’s important to me that they are all made from natural fibres though, so yes - all 100% cotton.

Where are Twisties made?

All our Twisties are made in the UK.

Are Twisties washable? If so - how should I wash them?
They are all washable but they need to be hand-washed as the wire (aluminium wire) doesn’t fare well in a washing machine and could potentially cause issues for both the twisty and the washing machine.

How long are the Twisties? What's the difference in length between Standard and Extra-Long?
The standard length of the Twisties is around 110cms. The extra-long ones run to about 124cms. Velvet Twisties are usually a little shorter (around 106cms) due to the width of the fabric as it’s supplied.

Which Twisty offers full head coverage?
The Totally Twisted style is the only twisty that offers full head coverage. The opening or 'pocket' for your head allows for a head circumference of up to 60cms. Get in touch if you need one for a larger head circumference.

Are the wires in the Twisties hemmed in?
Only in the Totally Twisted style. The wire is free/loose in both the Original and Slimline Twisties.

How long will the wire last? How easy it is to straighten? What do I do if it breaks?
The wire is pretty easy to reshape. It does need to be worked/teased straight by hand. It’s fairly robust too and should last for a fair amount of time. I do also offer a wire replacement service for a small fee,so  if the wire in your favourite twisty does snap (or I can send out a length of wire for the cost of postage to anyone who feels confident in their ability to replace the wire themselves)

Do you have a physical store/shop?
I do not. We sell almost entirely online though you may find us at the occasional event or festival!
